Basis of the edition

The present edition is based on the photographs available at the Mainzer Photoarchiv of the Hethitologie Portal Mainz, as well as the available hand-copies and relevant secondary literature up to 2019. When the original manuscripts have been collated, this is noted in the commentary.

Commentary

Collated (March 2020). According to the copy by L. Rost, this is a small single-columned tablet. Collation of the original manuscript, however, showed that the right edge is not at all preserved (contrary to the copy) and that the fragment is best considered as belonging to a two-columned tablet based on the curvature of the preserved surface. The classification as cult inventory is not certain, since the extant text lists cult offerings in fragmentary context and nothing more.

Palaeography and orthography: The script size is unusually big (5 mm).

rev. 5′: For the “festival of smearing/wiping of blood,” see CHD Š 291 with further literature; for the use of blood in Hittite rituals, see Beckman 2011 (with this passage quoted on p. 101 fn. 63).
